In summer you can drive all the way up to the Mt Buller village without charge and find free parking throughout the resort.

DRIVING
Here are some useful tips for a smooth journey:
- Pre-purchase Resort Entry online by midnight the day prior to arrival. Your resort entry fee includes parking.
- Print your Resort Entry Dashboard Pass and display it clearly on your dash to drive directly to the day or overnight car parks

Get Here Safely
- Plan your journey and breaks ahead of time.
- Start well rested with a good night’s sleep.
- Plan to pause from the road at least every two hours.
- Avoid driving at times when you would usually be sleeping.
- Don’t travel for more than 8 - 10 hours a day.
- Take a 15 minute powernap if you feel drowsy.
- Don’t drink alcohol before your trip - even a small amount can significantly contribute to driver fatigue.

DIRECTIONS
Mt Buller is just 248kms north-east of Melbourne via Mansfield. There are a few different routes you can take from Melbourne:
- Plenty Rd via Whittlesea and Yea
- Via the Hume Hwy to Tallarook and Yea
- Via the Maroondah Hwy to Yarra Glen and Yea
To get here via the most direct route using Google Maps and GPS, it is best to set your destination to Yea, then once you are in Yea set it for Mansfield, then Mt Buller from Mansfield. Click here for a map.
Please be aware of wildlife on the Mt Buller Road, particularly around the Merrijig, Sawmill Settlement and Mirimbah areas. Kangaroos, wallabies, deer, wombats and other animals are often on and beside the road. Slow down and be alert especially during dawn/dusk and at night.
BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
FUEL
There is no fuel available at Mt Buller so fill up in Mansfield before driving the last leg to the resort. If driving a diesel vehicle you should use alpine mix diesel or buy a winter additive which is available from most service stations in Mansfield.
WHEEL CHAINS
BY LAW - all vehicles MUST carry diamond pattern wheel chains during the declared snow season - irrespective of weather conditions.
Some cars are unable to fit chains check your vehicle user manual, and some tyre sizes are incompatible with snow chains (wide and/or low profile tyres are often difficult to fit).
- Please check your vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines before departure.
- If in doubt, call equipment rental outlets in advance with your tyre specifications to check they have wheel chains to suit. .
- Alternative transport options to the resort are available. On peak weekends in July and August, the Snowplay Express maybe an option.
- Trailers are not permitted when the road conditions require wheel chains to be carried.

WHERE DO I RENT OR BUY DIAMOND PATTERN WHEEL CHAINS?
Rent or buy wheel chains before you leave home, on the way, or at one of the outlets in Mansfield, Merrijig or Mirimbah. It is wise to organise these in advance to ensure the correct size is available.
Wheel chains are not available for hire within the resort.

ENTERING THE RESORT
Resort Entry Fees
If you have NOT pre-purchased your resort entry, you need to stop at the Resort Entry gate to pay your Resort Entry (includes parking). These fees go towards delivering essential services on the mountain including road clearing and parking.
ARRIVING
Day Visitors
- Mt Buller has eleven (11) car parking areas ranging from parks at 1km below the Mt Buller Village to right down at the Mirimbah gate at the base of the mountain. The time you arrive and the volume of visitors will determine where you are directed to park.
- Day visitors without luggage can ride the free shuttle service to the village. There may be a walk to the shuttle depending on where you are parked. All parking is open to the weather so please check the forecast and dress appropriately for an alpine environment with warm, waterproof clothing and suitable footwear.
- As you enter the resort our parking team will show you to the next available park – please follow their directions.
- Take note of where you are parked – a photo is a good idea to make sure you remember at the end of the day. There are 11 parking lots!
Overnight Visitors
- Parking for overnight visitors is located 2-4km below the Village. At the car parks an attendant will direct you where to park.

Accessing the Village and snowfields
- On arrival at the Mt Buller car parks you will be met by Ride Share Transfers (or your Private Transfer if you’ve organised this in advance of arrival) to take you and your luggage to your village accommodation. Only authorised vehicles are permitted to drive into the Mt Buller Village.
- There are fees for Ride Share and Private Transfers.
- Pre-purchase online is strongly recommended at least the day before arrival for the best price and to secure your preferred time.
DEPARTING
Day Visitors
At the end of the day you can return to the car park via the Northside Express Chairlift to Horse Hill or ride a free shuttle that departs from the Village Square to all car parks.
Overnight Visitors
At the end of your stay you will need to pre-book a Ride Share or Private Transfer service to transport you and your luggage back to your vehicle.
Clear the snow from your vehicle before driving. It is dangerous to drive with snow on the roof, you can be fined and receive demerit points from your licence.

OFF MOUNTAIN PARKING
- Behind the Mansfield-Mt Buller Buslines depot in Mansfield, or
- The Mirimbah Riverside car park (at the base of the mountain) - Limited spaces available, no booking.
From either location you can take a coach to Mt Buller (see 'Coach Services' section below).
Please note, if you park at Mirimbah, the pick-up point is at the Mirimbah Store. For prices and schedules, visit the . If you are staying overnight you may also need to pre-book a Ride Share or Private Transfer from the Village transit hub to your accommodation.
MOTORHOMES & CAMPING
Motorhomes can be parked in the car parks at Mt Buller but guests cannot stay/camp. Camping is not permitted at Mt Buller.

This service offers a private service service from outside the resort to/from your Mt Buller Village accommodation or Telephone Box Junction (TBJ) at Mt Stirling. You can also book transfers for car park > accommodation or movements within resort. Contact directly for pricing.
