62nd Annual Interschools

18 August 2019

24 August 2019 - update

Congratulations to everyone who has participated and made this week such a successful one.  We hope everyone takes home great memories of times shared with friends, family and school mates.  Don't forget that The Photo Shop is the official service documenting every race this week and you can find your photos online for purchase.

18 August 2019:  Mt Buller welcomes students from all over Victoria this week for what is set to be a action-packed week of camaraderie, racing, fun and a celebration of snowsports competition.

As we welcome hundreds of visitors this week including school groups, supporting families and the many people on the snow and off who make this week happen into our alpine village we take a moment to look back over 62 years of tradition and thank the 'snow family' it takes to keep a long-running event like this thriving.

Interschools is where many of Australia's iconic winter athletes make their start in the sport and continues to be the first step on a pathway for skiers and boarders with dreams of standing on an Olympic podium and pulling on a jacket with 'AUSTRALIA' written across the back - just as so many of our local heroes have done.

The racing starts on Monday morning with Ski Cross Division 5 Girls amongst the first on course from early on Skyline.  Alpine GS is also set to start nice and early on Little Buller Spur from the Snow Spray Hut and keep going until the final event Div 1 Boys GS on Little Buller on Sunday 25th August.

STAY INFORMED WITH EVERY RACE AND NEWS UPDATES POSTED HERE ALL WEEK

Be sure to join the community for the Opening Ceremony celebrations in the Village Square at 6.30pm on MONDAY evening when fireworks are set to fill the sky.

Presentations take place daily in the Sports Hall at Alpine Central with local faces including Olympic legends, including Ambassador Jacqui Cooper, presenting medals to the podium places from each day's events.

A huge thank you to the lift operations crew making early starts all week to get competitors to their courses.

Stay up to speed with planned lift operations are HERE.  Please note there are some significant snowfalls forecast this week and this may impact schedules and lift operations. Download the Mt Buller APP to have live lift updates and info in your pocket.

Thank you also to the volunteers who support each school and the Race and Event team who will be up in the dark and setting courses hours before dawn each morning.  If you see those folks please offer them a coffee!

An event of this scale is simply not possible without the support of many organisations and people who give generously of their time, efforts and resources.

Wishing everyone a fun and safe week on the slopes and keep in touch with all the updates on the Interschools website
