Adams Ski & Golf Day 2023

20 June 2023

The annual Adams Ski and Golf Day raised $38 000 for schools in Mansfield and surrounds to use towards their snowsports programs. The event has contributed more than $400, 000 for local schools to enable more students to participate in snowsports programs each winter.

Twenty teams of four spent the day locked in friendly rivalry on the race course at Mt Buller followed by the golf course in Mansfield in a battle for bragging rights and pride, and feeling good about raising funds for local kids in the process.

“It’s a highlight of the winter for us,” explained Mark Adams from Adams Real Estate, the title sponsors for the event. “I get to share a day with good friends and my son, catch up with the Buller community and to know we are raising funds that directly help local kids get up to the snow each season is just special.”

Zach Adams took on the challenge of firing up the auction for the Calcutta event the previous night in ABOM’s Moosehead Bar. Belle Brockhoff, Olympian and local legendary snowboarder, inspired the room when she spoke about the support Mark Adams has provided her with sponsorship allowing her to pursue her chase for gold in her chosen sport.

The competition kicked off with two runs down the ski racecourse on Bourke St and finished in the afternoon sunshine at Mansfield Golf Course. A big thanks to the Mt Buller Race Department for setting up the course and the smooth running of the ski race, and to Mansfield Golf Course for opening their greens to the competitors.

This event is not about the fastest ski racers on the day – it’s about the most consistent. The smallest time differential between an individual’s two ski runs is what reaps the benefits, leaving the competition open to all level of competitors.

Once the skiing (and boarding) is done the teams don their golfing kit and take on 18 holes of Ambrose format golf where teams are ranked by their lowest net score. Combine the team rankings for ski and golf and the lowest combined rank is the winner.

Congratulations to the winning team, “6 Beers and a Shot”, made up of Toby Leiman, Andrew Mortlock, James Octigan and Ivor Arandez. It must also be noted this team won last year’s event too, so they are setting the bar high for future Adams Ski and Golf days!

Many of Mt Buller’s local businesses were well represented on the day. Rob Aivatoglou from George’s ski hire and his team, Buller Central, came in 2nd.  Mike Balfe from Black Mountain and his K2 team came a noble 6th place, and Mark Bennetts, Chief Operating Officer for Mt Buller Resort Management and his team, Small Projects, came in at 8th. Congratulations to Peter Houghton for bidding on the winning team at the Calcutta dinner. You can see all the results here.
