Interschools WRAP

It was a huge week at Buller with 3000+ students in course for the Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships. The athletes smashed it on the racecourses, while the resort team, race department, parents, coordinators and volunteers made the event roll smoothly across 7 action packed days.

The entries leapt from 207 schools in 2022, up to 250 for this year and the number of competitors has grown from 2700 to 3100.

MVP award goes to the mountain operations teams for creating courses in limited snow conditions. They  did an extraordinary job and their efforts were remarked on all week, exceeding expectations at every turn. The race department was on deck from 4am daily setting courses after the groomers had been through overnight. It truly takes a mountain!

Congratulations to Melbourne Grammar School winning the overall primary school co-ed point score. A big round of applause also to our local kids representing Mansfield/Mt Buller Primary keeping in the top 2 for the overall point score last year and this year! Geelong Grammar School took out the secondary overall co-ed point score.

Event organiser David Speirs said, “The 2023 Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools is more than just serious competition; it’s about getting in and having a go and helping the school kids develop a lifelong passion for the sport. The spectacular display of skill and sportsmanship from all the athletes was been amazing to watch for all involved, with some stand out performances by some young competitors. This is one of the pathways to Olympic dreams so keep an eye on these young athletes coming through.”

Nationals update -- The decision to cancel the 2023 Australian Interschools Championships was reluctantly made after a review of all options, including relocation of the event. Due to the size of the event and the forecast weather, it was determined that appropriate courses could not be guaranteed for the best in Australia to compete on.
