LONG WEEKEND SKIERS ENJOY MORE TERRAIN

9 June 2019

9 June 2019 -  Following an early season opening on 1 June Mt Buller was a magnet for skiers, snowboarders and snowlovers of all descriptions for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend with bumper early season crowds flocking to the resort to make the most of the unusually good early season skiing conditions.

Mt Buller opened 5 lifts and a mix of blue and green level runs for skiers and boarders for the long weekend celebrations including Shakey Knees, Skyline and Baldy and Bourke Street where a small terrain park added to the riding experience.

Buller Ski Lifts General Manager Laurie Blampied welcomed the strong start, “We started on a high on 1 June opening the new $6m Bourke Street Express chairlift a week early thanks to some good initial snowfalls and great pre-season snowmaking conditions.  Mt Buller’s two Snowfactories have been working hard and built a solid base on Bourke Street; it’s wonderful to see people now enjoying this much snow for the long weekend.“

Resort Management CEO Mark Bennetts joined an impressive gathering of winter Olympians for the official kick off to the season in the Mt Buller Village Square, “It’s a wonderful feeling of community on the mountain for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend and it’s great to see so many new and familiar faces on the mountain soaking up the free entertainment, the fireworks and of course just enjoying quality time on the snow together.”

Young revellers enjoy the chance to meet their Olympic heroes Cam Bolton, Anton Grimus, Jacqui Cooper, Belle Brockhoff and Mitch Gourley

Visitors this weekend noticed numerous improvements and changes around the resort including a new-look village centre, new village transport service, additional car parks, improvements to the snow play park and updated dining venues.  The eagerly anticipated opening of the Kooroora Hotel did not take place this weekend as hoped, but is very close to opening and the resort expects to celebrate the next chapter for this much-loved venue later this month.

2019 marks the 70th year of lifted skiing at Mt Buller and the resort is set to embrace another bustling snow season, now welcoming IKON pass and Mountain Collective members to experience Mt Buller.

Mt Buller lift passes are available online from $66 for adults and $37 for children.

Mt Stirling is open for the snow season offering XC skiing, snowplay and tobogganing plus alpine camping.
