Mt Buller 2021 Snow Season Opening

11 June 2021

Mt Buller getting open ... for permitted visitors

The Mt Buller Mt Stirling Alpine resort is delighted to welcome regional Victorians for the official start of the winter season this long weekend 12-14 June.

Skiing and snowboarding commences on Bourke Street on Saturday morning allowing snow lovers to get in their first highly-anticipated turns on snow for the season.  Thanks to a massive snowmaking effort in recent weeks there is approx. 49cms of manmade snow on the run giving a soft cover.

“It’s been an incredible effort by everyone in resort to get open this weekend. It will be a toned-down, rolling start with skiing on one run and a less visitors than usual, however simply being back in business, having guests in resort and the season underway is a positive step,” said Laurie Blampied General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts.

The Bureau is forecasting chance of snow showers across the long weekend and wintry temperatures hovering between just 0-3 degrees.  See latest conditions live on the cams.

The Ski & Snowboard School have lessons available for first timers to get started safely with prior online bookings strongly recommended for the limited available slots.

Cafes, restaurants, retail stores and accommodation houses in Mt Buller village are getting open from Saturday for guests able to travel for the holiday weekend.  The resort has postponed the traditional Queen’s Birthday Weekend program including fireworks, music and festivities in light of the recent lockdown and restrictions however the community is hopeful Melbourne visitors may soon be able to get back on the mountain should restrictions be able to ease.

Regional Victorians wishing to see the snow this weekend have a unique opportunity to book accommodation, treat themselves to some hearty winter fare in the restaurants and get skiing and boarding with availability in resort on what is often a booked out weekend.

There is not yet tobogganing available in resort until further snowfall allows the Snow Play Parks to open.

Mt Stirling will be open for visitors with the Stirling Café cranking out coffee and bites from 10am- 3pm daily.  Sightseeing snow at higher elevations however the Ski School and snowplay park will not be open until further snowfall.

Visitors to the resorts are reminded to follow all government COVIDsafe guidelines and not to travel into regional Victoria if you are from the restricted Melbourne areas.  Resort entry charges commence from Friday afternoon 11 June and shuttle buses will commence operating between the car parks the village.
