SNOW is on the way

9 July 2019

13 July 2019:  And today we can report that after another 8cms overnight there is even more snow coming across the weekend and all the way through next week.  Keep up with the Bureau forecast here.  Saturday is set to be COLD with a top of only -3 expected and strong westerlies are going to keep things feeling even cooler.  The wild conditions may impact lift operations so check the status of lifts and runs.  A good day to download the Mt Buller App so you have the lowdown right there in your pocket.

12 July 2019:  Jane Bunn, Seven weather meteorologist, was in resort last night and caught up with Sarah Duffy to talk about the forecast and what snow she expects to arrive, and when.  Watch the video.   Snow is looking like arriving for Friday afternoon (after 3pm) when temps are set to plummet.  Stand by...

9 July 2019:  If you have been getting a little nervous about getting your snow fix - we have some good news!  The forecast is looking increasingly positive for us flake-obsessed folks.  Which ever forecaster you prefer to follow, they all seem to be in furious agreement that we have SNOW headed our way, and it looks like a good amount of it too!

Jane Bunn is the meteorologist at Seven Melbourne and she's so excited about the forecast she's grabbing her ski jacket and coming up here to do the weather report live from Bourke Street on Thursday 11 July.  Jane got into the whole weather caper after developing a slight addiction to snow and embraces the challenge of picking apart the models and the data to create accurate snow forecasting.  If you would like to take a look at her predictions for this storm jump on her forecasting site for the low-down.

We like the look of this...

If you want to compare a few models you might also like to check out what they are saying at the Bureau of Meteorology on our dedicated Mt Buller page where snowflakes are on the chart all week.  The data you see on the weather pages on this site come directly and live from Bureau feeds.

Now - if you really want to get your weather geek on, or impress those people who sound like they know a lot about weather and fronts and such... you might like to check out the 540 line (google it).  The simple breakdown is that when the 540 line is on Mt Buller that is when you can expect rain to switch to snow. It's way more complicated than that - but you get the gist.  And the map is very pretty.  This is what we are looking like tomorrow and into Friday when flakes are anticipated.

So here's our checklist for a successful snowstorm story...

  1. Check the daily snow reports
  2. Check the road/wheel chains reports - tip - chains will have to be carried... and might be being fitted.  Do you know how? (here's a video)
  3. Book your trip (reload your B-TAG, book resort entry, book that lodge) online on this website - see that blue button at the top?  Click that.
  4. Do a gear check - you don't want a binding fail, pant fail, lost gloves, bung helmet strap or some other gear malfunction to ruin your snow day.
  5. Download the Mt Buller App so you can track your runs, have handy numbers where you need them and get live updates on lifts and more.
  6. Book a day off.

Come up with ridiculous terms to use on your social media #powdermonium #flakilicious #snowmaggedon #winterishereandsoamiandyourenot #skiyalater #deeeeeeeepness etc.
