It's a wrap for green season

It's a wrap for 'green season'

As the temperature dips and the yellow-tailed black cockatoos make their seasonal descent to the valley, it’s a fond farewell to another outstanding summer at Mt Buller.

A look back over the ‘green season’ is a reminder of how much we squeezed into those sun-soaked months since November.
  1. We climbed an Aussie first

RockWire, the talk of the adventure community and Australia's hottest new ‘via ferrata’ experience, injected a dose of adrenaline and fun up on the summit of Mt Buller. Climbers of all stripes, from novices to seasoned pros, clipped themselves onto the continuous cable, bravely tackling the rugged west face. Scaling ladders, traversing wire bridges, and clinging onto handholds, each guest conquered the iron path and left with memories of those superb Delatite Valley view burned into their memory. RockWire will reopen in November, with a new more challenging route set to open around Christmas.

  2. We played on the SNOW

Did you make it up for some summer snowplay in December? Picture this: snowball battles and snowperson building fun on Bourke Street - in summer!? Our ingenious mountain crew made a festive delivery of snow in the Magic Forest, turning it into a playground for cool summertime family fun.

  3. We feasted

It must be the altitude and the fresh alpine air! Everything tastes better up here and the Sea to Summit Long Lunch series left diners with full tummies and contented smiles. From land to sea, every dish was a culinary masterpiece, savoured against the backdrop of breathtaking views from Spurs Smokehouse. And to top it off, the smooth tunes of Blues Limited set the mood for this unforgettable mountain-top feast. Keep an eye on the summer calendar from November for more of these foodie events - they book out quickly.

Tip: Book in to stay on the mountain so you can enjoy a long long lunch, stay for the sunset and digest at leisure.

  4. We ran and rode

From the moment the bike trails opened in November until the season close in late April the mountain bike community were out on Clancy’s, Copperhead, Misty Twist and all their gravity favourites. The continuing trail network upgrades and lots of raking made for happy riders and if you didn’t get some laps in this season put early November in the diary now. Book early for events including Mind, Body Bike (now with both a women’s and men’s weekend), the Blue Dirt Blow Out, pre-book your shuttles for a ride back up and discover the friendly local ride crew.

Mt Buller and neighbouring Mt Stirling’s trails saw plenty of footsteps as alpine trail runners (and relaxed walkers) all made the most of the endless loops and views this season. Organised events including the full on leg-burning 100km challenge of the Hut 2 Hut race and the more mellow 5km Mountain High Fun Run drew active folk from near and far to share time on the trails.

  5. We played

Each summer a few more people get in on the secret of how beautiful and peaceful it is up here. If it’s been a while since you spent some ‘green season’ time on your favourite mountain you’ll notice a few changes. There’s disc golf, AirZone trampoline fun on key weekends, a basketball hoop for a little one-on-one in the village, the pump track is right outside the Kooroora and there are always gnomes to hunt for! And don’t forget Easter when thousands of eggs are stashed around the place!

If you visited this season THANK YOU for being part of it all. Green season 2024-25 planning is already taking shape with some new experiences to keep things fun.

Until then - come and be part of a snow season of celebration as Mt Buller reaches a milestone of 100 years of skiing this winter!
